  1. Question # 1:

What a fascinating time to live in Europe! The 1400 were defined by creativity and inspirational art & literature along with the desire to apply new scientific knowledge. The era is known as the Rennaisance. What came next was the desire to discover, invent, and explore. The 1500s were defined by EXPLORATION and DISCOVERY. The way people in Europe looked at the world greatly changed during this time period. Logical explanations were supported by obsevations, data and science. Some thought it to be radical while others embraced the new way of thinking.

  2. Question #1:

Before the 1500's people hardly ever needed science. People didn't find using science helpful for anything. Also people started to look for a way to get to Asia by water instead of walking. This is when most exploring started.

    Question #5:

Some things that interest me about this time period is that people explored new lands and found where we live today. Another thing is that people walked from Europe all the way to Asia and back to trade.

  3. Question #2

Europeans wanted to find a new route to Asia so they wouldn't have to rely on the Italians for the goods from Asia and India. They also wanted to find new land and expnad the empire. They wanted to expand their religion to other areas. The Europeans wanted to find new land beyond the horizon. Some others wanted to gain riches and adventure.

    Question #5
This time period interests me because it was the era where Spain and Portugal were trying to fidn their around the world. They were looking for gold and riches and adventure and I would like those things, too. Another thing that interests me is how Columbus ended up in the Bahamas. I also thought it was cool that he was an Italian but Spain funded his trip.

    Question #5

Yes, Elijah I think that is very true, too. It seems like they were ready to find another route to trade by water instead of by land. It is very cool that the explorers found the land where we live today. I think that the exploration time was cool because of the science they used to cross the oceans.

It’s crazy that people didn’t use science in the 1500’s. They didn’t think it was useful. People were starting to explore. People were trying to find new ways to get to Asia. Instead of walking they used boats to travel there.

  7. I agree with T.J. and Elijah also. It is so intriguing to find now routes to trade and new land to settle in. it is real cool how they built boats for the first time to sail across the ocean to new lands! And the land that they found is the land we live on today. The time of exploration is really interesting.

  8. Question #2

The Europeans wanted to find a passage to India from Europe because the Indians had valuable resources such as silk and many spices. The Italians controlled all the trade that went on with India and Spain wanted to cut off that trade route and create one for themselves so that they would not have to rely on Italy for all of their goods. The Europeans thought if you went through the Atlantic ocean you would hit China and then if they hit China they could cut off the Italian trade route with India and start trading with India themselves. They soon found out they were wrong and discovered new land where they could expand their empire and find many riches. When rumors traveled back to Europe that the new land had gold much more than the Europeans had ever seen, new explorers came to America and fought off the natives killing all that stood in their way. Spain and other countries conquered the Americas.

  9. What I found interesting about the Incas was that their ruler made them learn a new language and give most of their goods to him, but unlike any other empires, he gave them protection and food in return, instead of death. Another thing I found cool was that the Mayas celabrated a lot! Religion was very important to them, and they had colorful, glittery ceremonies. The Aztecs had some interesting facts too, like they were big on war. Feisty ones, eh? They also were the most powerful tribe after many protests and bloody wars, rich and strong.

  10. I definitley like how they didn't need technology. Of course I like how they sort of evolved modern science, too. It's pretty cool to think we still use some thingymabobbers that they invented, just enhanced a bit, to meet our expectations. I would guess that after a few clever inventions, exiting new oppurtunities come clear, like easier voyages, so they could get to new worlds and become famous for traveling in new worlds, and get rich. It all came togeher like Pangea. They made inventions, went on new voyages, got goods, sold them and became rich, and could pay for new voyages, over and over again.

  11. It must've been difficult to think that somewhere out there, there was competition to find new land. It was just a challenge they faced. Having to decide on whether you should pay for a thrilling new voyage or save your riches, was a challenge.

Another thing that interests me is the fact that so many people had great inventions. As any other explorer instead of just hearing stories about the Indies Columbus wanted to go experience it. Columbus got together a group of brave men and went off to sail to the mystical Indies. Columbus sailed to what he thought was the Indies, but instead was the undiscovered America. 36. Question #2
In the 1400's Europeans began to think what's out there? Is there more? Then in 1492 Christopher Columbus attempted to find a trade route to India for their resources. When he landed in Hispaniola (a Caribbean island) in 1492 he thought he had finally found a sea route to the Indies. Later on Christopher Columbus died still thinking he was the one that discovered the first trade route to the east Indies. When more explorers traveled east they soon discovered that Columbus did not find a trade route to the Indies but he did find the new world. Most of the explorers that headed west were searching for land to claim for their countries. Other reasons might be that people were getting crowded in Europe and wanted to expand, or people wanted to expand religion and wanted Christianity to spread. Europeans were also very greedy and may have been searching for gold or other riches.

After Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean in 1492, people wanted to get richer and start a new adventure. Europeans and other people who lived in the eastern hemisphere were somewhat greedy. Some of these people weren't greedy at all. They just wanted to know about the unknown world, start excitement at sea by adventuring it, and or religious reasons. On the other hand, some people wanted to control the whole world. The new land, that would have new products to sell. People who explored into the unknown had hoped to sell these things for a lot of money. To some people, finding new products wasn't that important, what was important was new land. Queen Isabella wanted to find new land and claim it to Spain. She though that would bring great wealth to Spain. Europeans might have been looking for other riches to. What ever the reason that drove Europeans to the new land, we wouldn't be were we are today.

Its not easy being a explorer it comes with many challenges. It lead to many great discoveries and gold and spreading religion. Which i think are the most important things to the Europeans. I thought it ws very interesting how the first moveable printer system worked. Johann Gutenberg successfully designed it by using a set of tiny lead blocks with a letter of the alphabet on each block. Those were very important because they could spell out a whole page of text. I think some of the challenges they faced when they went around the world the first time. Was that they still had to face native people and that they didn't know was out there. and there was sickness to like scurvy and bumping into other lands. they also had the task of navigating. and on top of all that there was the cost of the ship and to get some one to pay for it.

I agree with you that the natives and the Europeans were trading food, fur, slaves, and diseases. The natives could not fight off the diseases because they had never had to before and their bodies weren't immune to the diseases. I wonder if the Europeans had ever known that they were giving the natives diseases. If they did then why trade with them. Most likely they either didn't know or didn't care because they still got the goods.

With the telescope the sciencetists used it to look at the havens. The compass was used to help sailors find there way at sea. The astrolabe was used by the sailors to look at the stars to find out their exact location.

Their inventions were very interesting the part that astonished me was that they didn't have science till the 1400s another thing that interests me is that the Europeans didn't know the earth was round until different explorers and astronomers made guesses based on the stars.

  69. I thought it was interesting how a lot of people did not like science back then. Someone wrote a book about how the earth orbits the sun but he got arrested for it. People thought that science went against churches. For example, the church said that the earth was the center of the universe, but scientists knew that the earth was orbiting the sun. Now science rules the world.

  71. Question#1,

What was life like in europe in the 1400-1500s what was happening? Europeans began observing their world instead of just beliving old writings and the church. This led to a curiousity about science and how things worked. Because people started thinking differently new inventions and technologies were developed, which helped exploration of the world.

  72. Question#4,

What were some of the effects of European exploration? New water routes were found which led to increase in trade. It allowed Europeans to settle and colonize the Americas. The Spanish defeated two of the most powerful empires in the Americas through more advanced weapons and diseases carried by the Spanish that killed the natives. The Spanish discovered gold and silver mines, which they made the natives mine and became the wealthiest country in Europe.

  73. I think that when the Europeans came to the Americas it changed the world. The main reason is trade between continents. The Europeans brought horses to America, which were useful. They also brought a lot of diseases over, killing a lot of the natives. Then Europeans sent slaves to work in gold mines. It crazy how much stuff changed just because of a man named Columbus.

Some of the factors that led to exploration was advancement in Science and technology. With new inventions like the compass and telescope explorers were able to sail farther into the world. Educated people that had been studing the earth's surface had relied on greek writers and church officals. In the time periods of 1540-1700's studies of the world was viewed diffrentally. that had then lead to more modern science. I believe that the Euopeans were exploring because they wanted to find better climate to farm in and also to have more control of the land. Instead they found the America's in which they encountered Indian tribes such as the Aztec's. Another reason they explored was to expand their religion to other land. Columbus was just trying to find another route to Asia and India but instead hit the America's. He died still believeing that he found a better route to Asia and India.
